I rolled a new OS this weekend after the Turtle raid and ran into a few bugs with vent. I know Quen and I both experienced at least one of these, while I got a bit more of a severe problem with lag. So here are what worked for me...

The first problem you'll notice in vent is that you're mic is way too low. You can barely be heard or not at all. I had this problem in other games in Vista, and found the best solution was to go into the Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound. This last one is the green link and it should open up the Sound panel.

Once there, click Recording tab -> select your Microphone -> Properties -> Levels tab -> Microphone Booster. Ramp up the DB to it's max (I did!). Click OK twice to get out of the sound panel.

Now do a voice check. You might still be a bit low. Go into the setup panel on vent and, under Amplifiers, drag the Outbound bar to the right. You may be prompted with a dialogue box. Just click OK and then drag the bar to the right again. When the number to the right reads 4 or 5 you should be good, but you might need further adjustment. Just do another test and adjust as necessary.

The second major problem I had and a few others on the 'net seem to be having is major lag. You see the green light by people indicating they're talking or their mic is open, but you don't hear anything. Four or five minutes later, or after disconnecting and reconnecting, you get everything that was said in one big wave.

The best thing to do for this is to make sure you have the LATEST drivers for your motherboard/sound card for audio. I didn't, and the latest release for my board seems to have fixed the issue. Others are also recommending you run the program in compatibility mode (Windows Vista SP2 was the best option I had in mine). I also ran it as an administrator.

Hope this helps someone! So far it's worked for me, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed just in case!
