    About to scream

Okay ... I've been having some major pc issues. I've replaced the power supply and gaming card which have worked fine for the past few months. Only recently I've come into the problem of having my tower actually turn on when I hit the power button. What has been happening is the fans run when I shut down which I figured was typical to cool down the pc...But they kept running for over an hour and I couldn't turn the pc back on.

So I had to shut down by turning off the switch of the power supply and this is how I've been powering down after telling the pc to shut down in vista (64 bit). So I try to get on my desktop today and push the power button...nada. I figured I forgot to switch the power supply back on so I flip the switch push the power button on the tower...lit up then I goofed and turned it back off by hitting the power button again. So now it won't power on at all. No fans running...nothing. I don't know what to do. Does this mean my motherboard is done?

    Sera,

There are a couple of things you can do first to see where the problem might lie... Don't think your MOBO is fried but here is a couple of things to try. Unplug the connector that goes from the power supply into the motherboard and try and turn the power supply on and see if the fan on the supply kicks on. If it still doesn't more than likely power supply is fubar and time for another. It could also be that the power supply is not putting out correct voltage which can be checked with a volt meter if you have a geek friend that has one....

Hope this helps but keep us updated and hopefully we can figure it out for ya

I did try that and nothing powered up. It's like there's nothing triggering the power supply to start. No fans and no lights...nada. I can't get anymore info til I take this paperweight in. The thing is I don't get why it suddenly started to happen. I mean when I powered down back on New Year's Eve the fans kept running for like...an hour or two at high speed. The only way to stop them was to shut off the power supply and this was the only way to power up my pc too so it doesn't make sense. I'm start suspect the switch on the tower itself isn't doing it's job either.

Okay got the rig fixed up and it was a bad connection from the PS to the MOBO. Nothing major so it's been fixed. Went ahead and put in some additional fans to help keep the tower cooler. It was overheating and needed that addition as well. So I'm up and running again.
